FAQ'S

What Does a Travel Advisor Do?

Travel Advisors simplify your trip planning process. They provide advice and support before, during, and after your trip.

International travel, multi-city stops, customers’ specific needs, and travel delays or interruptions are all things that can complicate your time away.

Advisors handle the hard stuff, such as airfare, transfers, car rentals, hotel bookings, travel insurance, etc so you’re able to focus on relaxing.

What Does it Cost to Work with a Travel Advisor?

Travel advisors earn commissions on the hotels, tours, & cruises they book for you. (Suppliers build those agency commissions into their prices, so when you book on your own, rarely are you getting a reduced rate.) Typically you pay the cost of your trip, plus a reasonable service fee for researching and arranging details such as flights, transfers, train and driving routes, etc.

These service fees ensure your advisor is working in your best interest vs. simply seeking out the highest commission. There are some advisors out there who don’t charge service fees for their time, but you can’t be sure they will follow through if no service agreement exists.

Your travel advisor should be upfront and transparent about their service fees before they begin planning your travel. When you enter into a service agreement with Dream & Co., we’re committed to your vacation planning from conception to execution. We provide all of our clients with a complete summary of applicable charges during our initial consultation, so there are no surprises! This allows you to decide ahead of time whether our services are a good match for you.

Can an Advisor Find Better Deals Than I Can?

Yes, often times they can when you consider the added upgrades and amenities an advisor may be able to secure for you.

There’s a big difference between booking a bargain basement deal through a discount site and booking direct through a travel advisor. And some travel suppliers don’t sell direct to the public, so you’ll need an advisor in order to have access to their product.

It all boils down to relationships, and your travel advisor has established relationships with suppliers that ensure you’re getting the most value for your money.

Will My Advisor Help Me During My Travel?

Absolutely! In fact, this is one of the most important reasons people work with an advisor. The goal is always a seamless experience, but things sometimes do go wrong.

Your advisor can help you navigate through any accommodation or flight changes, leveraging their business relationships on your behalf. When travel is booked through a 3rd party discount vendor, they become your agent so you would have to rely on their 1-800 number to help you out of a jam.

Travel advisors work for you. They advocate for you and are a much more personal and effective resource than an online search.

Can an Advisor Work With My Hotel & Airline Loyalty Programs?

Travel advisors can certainly help you earn loyalty points and miles by booking travel with your preferred supplier, but they cannot redeem points or vouchers for you.

This would be an example of when booking on your own makes more sense (afterall, a travel advisor can’t find a better rate then free!).

Your advisor should always provide you with a side-by-side rate comparison so you can make the most informed decision.

What Benefit is There to Working With a Travel Advisor?

The biggest benefit to working with an advisor is the time & money they can save you! Itinerary planning can be time consuming (not to mention, the time spent on hold with airlines, tour companies, and hotels!) . It’s easy to miss important details, especially for groups, international, or inexperienced travelers.

Advisors answer your questions, make sure you have the proper passport & visa requirements, alert you to any travel warnings, and provide expert advice about destinations you haven’t been to.
